War of the Ring customization

War of the Ring is a great game. However, it is not always easy to fit all the miniatures in the right regions on the map because of space limitations. When I saw a custom version of the game on BGG using tokens, I was really interested to try it. I bought a bunch of wooden game pieces from Bear Wood Supply Co. in Nova Scotia. I started to paint the discs using cheap acrylic paint (Folkart at Walmart). I chose colors according to the political boundaries found in the game (Sauron is red, Rohan is dark green, Isengard is yellow, etc.). Here’s how it looks so far:

WoR tokens WIP

These are 3/4 inch tokens that will be used for Elite troups. Regulars and leaders will be represented by 1/2 inch tokens.

Next step will be to find a way to put icons on the tokens to represent Elites, Regulars, and Leaders.

In addition to tokens, I will be using game miniatures for the Ringbearers, Companions, Minions and Monster.

Downsizing miniature collection: Ral Partha Aztecs and Incas

These miniatures have been in the darkness of a drawer for more than 15 years! Obviously, they were not part of any of my projects. They might have a brighter future with somebody else. Let me know if interested.

I took them out of their blisters to take better pictures.

Tutorial - How to make a Ruined Arena

You will need for this project: extruded foam, PVA glue, sand, baseboard, cheap acrylic paint, craft knives.

1. Cut your foam. Dry fit every part. Glue your foam together and on your baseboard.

2. Add texture (mix PVA - diluted with water - and paint; add sand) - the sloppy part! Wait for it to dry.

3. Paint (black basecoat, raw umber undercoat, raw sienna heavy drybrush, light grey drybrush). On the image, the light grey drybrush was done only on the top-right corner piece of the arena for demonstration.

4. Let dry. Varnish (matte) if you want it to last longer on the gaming table.

5. Play with it! The following image showcase a multiplayer Mordheim skirmish between a Skaven warband, a Drak Elf warband, and an Ostlanders warband.
